Late last year S&R had a lot of yogurt makers on their shelves and I started having ideas about making my own yogurt. I bought the Severin yogurt maker that had to be plugged onto a convenience outlet and I was very happy with the results in the beginning. You see, the trouble with yogurt makers is that it's difficult to make big quantities, and with a family that loves yogurt, I couldn't produce it fast enough! That's when I decided to start making big batches of yogurt without a yogurt maker and, I promise, it's super easy.
You'll need only 2 ingredients : your favorite milk and a small cup of store-bought unsweetened yogurt with live cultures. Why yogurt to make yogurt? When you're making yogurt, all you need is to keep the yogurt cultures in your store-bought product to stay alive. You do this by feeding them with more milk. Hence, the only two ingredients: milk and yogurt with live cultures. :) So let's begin!
Step 3: Add 1 tablespoon of pre-packed unsweetened yogurt for every 1 liter of milk. Yes, you need that little and add no more than that. Adding too much yogurt might crowd out the cultures and your yogurt won't set. Stir to incorporate.
